Johannesburg Newsletter, Number 37, August 12, 2012

Dear       Dear Family and Friends,
MOUNTAINVIEW OUTREACH
Thankfully over 200 children came to the outreach ready to praise the LORD, learn more about JESUS, play games, and have a good meal. The children had a long worship time and then a lesson on the beatitudes.  At the end of the teaching, I always open it to questions but rarely will a child ask one. But this time a young man came over to me with a tough question.  As he was asking, I was praying for the answer.  The LORD came through and gave me an answer and we prayed together.  I would like for the children to always feel comfortable to ask those difficult questions.

RACING CARS!
Through the years I have been amazed at how the children can make toys out of the common articles.  On this day, I was watching the children race around with their “cars” and I asked if they made them and if I could take a picture of them…I got a resounding answer of yes and YES!  The children make them out of milk bottles, cans, wire, and waxed cartons.  My favorite is the one made out of oil cans.  Such ingenuity!  Not wanting to be left out of the picture, notice that one boy had his store bought car!

SIBEKIWE PRIMARY
The school where we meet was started in 1999.  The children have been crammed into small rooms, without chairs or desks, causing most to sit on the floor. About 2 months ago a mining company donated eight new classrooms that are complete with desks, chairs, black and white boards, windows and flooring.  The children and the teachers are so proud of their school.

CALVARY CHAPEL JOHANNESBURG
This last month I started teaching the Sunday School again at CCJ.  We now have 2 classes; more teachers and I teach the older children only once a month.  The children have grown so much in the last year!

Deon Botha, our Worship Leader, has started a choir.  I am not sure of his plans for us to sing but we five women are having a good time learning harmonies for the worship and singing among the fellowship.

GOVERNMENT COUNCILLOR
I was hoping for news of temporary land that the Ward Councillor had offered.  But I have no concrete answers.  Instead I am asking for prayer for GOD’S perfect timing and HIS plan to come together.  It seems that GOD is working on the hearts of different people to come and help. That is encouraging to me.  Trusting that the LORD loves these beautiful children much more than I do and that HIS plan is for good and not evil for these precious ones.

THANKING GOD
Personally I am thanking GOD for giving us such a mild winter.  But for the past few days it has been bitterly cold and has even snowed.  The children live in shacks with no insulation and build fires keep warm, and sometimes whole rows of shacks burn down.  Each year people are killed just trying to keep warm.  Pray for the children.

CAR
Not having any leads for another car, I got a new clutch in my car but have found that it does indeed need reconditioned gears as well.  I am certain that GOD has kept it running.  So ask for continued prayers for direction on what to do next.

Blessings and love,
Jan

  1. I read this a while back, but failed to comment. I love the cars!! What innovative little guys, and they have reason to be proud. Bless you, Dear Jan, as you do this tough work for the Lord.
