Johannesburg Newsletter, September 11, 2012

Waking up on September 11th brought sad memories for me as I remember clearly that I was living in the dorms of Calvary Chapel San Jose when we were attacked and the Twin Towers fell.

I will remember this day for another reason. This September 11th was planned for taking Brian and Lori Bowman, from the visiting Aurora Colorado team, to see Mountainview.  They had been praying for over a year!  Much prayer went into this visit as Brian was feeling badly the day before and I also was not feeling well.

We woke up, prayed, gave the day to the LORD and off we went for our 40KM trip.  Little did we know that today, after over 4 years, would be the day that the vision project would get land. I am thanking GOD for this and can hardly get my mind and heart around it.  Actually jumping for joy every time I think about it.

The land is temporary, as is customary in this settlement, and requires a letter from the Ward Councillor each year to use it BUT it is in the perfect location to start the project.  I will share it with the Area Councillor and is located behind the school, close to the Government Clinic, and close to the soccer field!  This large corner property with electricity was offered along with 2 others choices that are in low lying areas without electricity. Best pick..It’s a great start!

FYI…I am planning to continue to do the CCCCC every other Saturday outreach for the children.

Last week I drove to Mountainview, in hard rains, and ended up in a flood area where it was difficult to travel.  Red earth was washing down the earthen street creating large pits and crevices.  You can see one at the front of the top photo.  They were 6-9 inches deep and my car had to work to get through the holes. When I got to the tar road it was inundated with the red earth and several inches rushing water.  The entire 27 person Aurora team was to go out last Saturday for an outreach but the shacks were flooded and even though we offered to help clean up, we were told that it was under control and please not to come due to weather. It was disappointing to all of us but in retrospect I believe it was GOD’S plan.

Next week the Howard’s, from CC Harrogate, are coming to South Africa.  They have been very involved, along with their church, in praying and donations for the children. I am looking forward to showing them the Mountainview area.  Please pray for a safe trip.  They are bringing several plastic containers of donations from their congregation with them.  Please pray that they all get here as safely and in tact.

With the foundation of JESUS…Envision with me:  The second step will be to build a fence around the area that will be used to meet with the orphans and vulnerable children for their safety. Thirdly, identify the people in the community who are willing to help with the project.  Meet with the children and start a Kid’s Club to address the most urgent need of the children.  An additional building, for meeting and storage purposes, is also needed.  Please pray with me as GOD continues to put this project together, for HIS glory. More soon as the project unfolds.  Depending on JESUS for the strength and direction.
Blessings and love,
Jan
